How to talk to girls at parties was very metaphorical throughout the entire thing. It was also kind of hard to follow at times. Sometimes when the girls were talking it made it sound like they were from a completely different planet. Other times it seemed that they were just foreign exchange students. I think that it is a metaphor for how some guys view women, as a completely different race, or aliens even. Which honestly is a good reference especially at 15 years old. Throughout the story Enn has to work up the courage to talk to girls whereas his friend finds it easy to do so. His friend is what we would call in todays age as a player. Vic hits it off with one of the prettiest girls instantly and disappears into the party leaving Enn to figure out his situation on his own. When Enn talks to the girl with a deformity, I found it interesting that she referred to herself as a persons property and that she wouldn't do anything that would hurt this persons property, meaning herself. I think that the deformity is symbolism for a social block. What I mean is that a lot of people with deformities don't fit into society, and that even a nervous boy seems to good to be true for someone with a deformity. The part I found the most interesting is when Enn sits next to a girl on the couch and becomes entranced by whatever poetry she was saying. It brought a sense of excitement, wanderlust, and even the notion of death into the story. At the very end when Vic grabs Enn and dashes out of the house is a very powerful moment depending on how you look at it. I see it as Vic realized like so many people these days do, is that he is scared of commitment but loves the idea of playing with the heart. That is until it comes back to hurt you just like Vic seemed crushed at the end of the story.
